CHOOSING A WOOD

It’s important to know the difference between the different wood species options in order to accomplish the look you’re going for.

Oak – Hard wood with coarse grains and knots throughout that tend to absorb more stain, making them stand out.

Birch – Birch is a softer wood with a very light grain pattern.  Most Birch cabinets have little or no knots or mineral streaks.

Maple – Durable wood species with light grain pattern.  This is the most common wood species used in cabinets.

Hickory – Is a very hard wood with coarse grains and knots, commonly having “blonde” streaks similar to Cherry.  Often used in Country Style Kitchens

MDF – Medium Density Fiber board is often used as center panels on painted doors.  The smooth texture is ideal for paint which would otherwise show the grain pattern of natural wood.

Cherry – Cherry is very distinctive for its light blonde streaks and soft grains. It is considered one of the richest looking wood species and is popular in all styles of cabinets, from Traditional to Contemporary and Country
