Common questions about RTA Cabinets

What are RTA kitchen cabinets?

RTA stands for Ready-to-Assemble which means cabinets arrive unassembled, similar to e.g. IKEA cabinets. The main benefit of RTA kitchen cabinets is to save money without compromising on quality, since customers are able to get the same product for less. This is possible by cutting assembly and shipping costs; RTA cabinets arrive flat packed and take up less space in both storage and shipping which allows for a smaller price tag. Additionally, RTA cabinets are often sold online, which makes for even greater savings. An online RTA cabinet store simply isn't faced with the same recurring costs that physical retailers are, such as store staff and upkeep.

Are RTA cabinets good quality?

Just like with most things, this depends on where you shop. Some RTA cabinets can last for decades, while others won't make it nearly as long. The best way to ensure the quality you are getting is to first order door samples. In general, good indicators of quality include usage of either solid wood, plywood, or engineered woods such as MDF and HDF. You can read about the quality materials we are using at Wholesale Cabinets here.

How long does it take to assemble RTA cabinets?

On average, an RTA wall cabinet can be assembled in under 10 minutes, while an RTA base cabinet can take about 10-15 minutes. It is not a very complicated process, especially with good assembly videos and the right tools. If you prefer to have your cabinets pre-assembled, you can shop our selection of assembled cabinets instead.

What is a 10x10 kitchen?

Sometimes referred to as "average 10x10 kitchens" or "basic 10x10 kitchens", a 10x10 measurement is an industry standard term, especially when you shop for cabinets to order online. To break this down, a 10x10 kitchen is simply an example layout of a kitchen with the dimensions being 10' by 10'.

The image below shows an example of what is referred to as a basic 10x10 kitchen, or average 10x10.

Layout of a 10x10 RTA kitchen

The average 10x10 kitchen is actually not so average, it rarely exists in a kitchen space you would normally see in real life. There are however some specific guidelines for what the industry refers to as a 10x10 kitchen. It is a design standard that consists of 12 cabinets with set sizing – these will always be the same 12 cabinets with the same dimensions. This is not because a kitchen should look that way, but because a 10x10 pricing should always be simple to compare to another 10x10 pricing, and give you a ballpark idea of your price while you shop.

To recreate a design in your cart that makes up a basic 10x10 kitchen, you can:

  • Add 1 W3630 (36” wide by 30” tall wall cabinet)
  • Add 1 W2430 (24” wide by 30” tall wall cabinet)
  • Add 1 CW2430 (24” wide by 30” tall corner wall cabinet)
  • Add 1 W1230 (12” wide by 30” tall wall cabinet)
  • Add 1 W3012 (30” wide by 12” tall wall cabinet)
  • Add 1 W1830 (18” wide by 30” tall wall cabinet)
  • Add 1 W3612 (36” wide by 12” tall wall cabinet)
  • Add 2 B12 (12” wide base cabinets)
  • Add 1 SB36 (36” wide sink base cabinet)
  • Add 1 LS36 (36” wide corner Lazy Susan cabinet)
  • Add 1 B18 (18” wide base cabinet)

What you see above is the entire list of cabinets that are included in every standard 10x10 kitchen pricing – if you find a cabinet retailer that includes anything else in their 10x10 average price, you will immediately know that it is incorrect. To summarize, you are not necessarily supposed to order these cabinets for your own kitchen, this is merely an industry standard formula for you to be able to compare apples to apples in terms of pricing.
