Distressed Cabinets | Keeping Cabinets Clean

Keeping your wood cabinets clean is essential to their longevity. Here we will go over the basics of cabinet upkeep.

Don’t Use Harsh Chemicals

While it’s best to wipe down custom or RTA cabinets often, you could be doing more harm than good if you’re using chemicals that damage the wood finish. Be careful that your cleaning products don’t have ammonia, or you can risk the cabinets showing signs of aging. While you may need to use a chemical solution for countertops of door handles, make sure these chemicals don’t come into contact with the solid wood while you’re cleaning.

Don’t Expose the Wood Cabinets to Water

You will need a base of water to clean the wood, don’t expose the cabinets to too much water or moisture. For water-based solutions that you’re using to wipe down the cabinets, make sure to use a dry rag or towel to immediately wipe them down. There will also be natural wear and tear that need wiping down but leaving a damp towel on the wood could cause solid wood cabinets to rot sooner than expected.

Distressed Cabinets

We all need a routine to keep the house tidy. Every few days, or at a minimum once a week, the cabinets should also be wiped down. This will help ensure there are no surface stains or moisture accumulation. Plus, a routine schedule will also ensure there’s no dust. Sticking to a schedule will help you maintain the look of your wood cabinets. No matter if your cabinets are brand new or a few years old, sticking to a schedule also preserves the look of a brand-new kitchen.
